Ben Fortner has always been fascinated by the creativity that fuels successful businesses and the mechanics that bring their innovations to life. These analytical and entrepreneurial interests led Ben to center his professional endeavors on a thorough understanding of a company’s unique “hows,” “whys” and “whats.”
Throughout his career as an attorney and advisor specializing in Research and Development (R&D) tax credits, Ben has helped hundreds of mid-sized U.S. companies in a wide variety of industries reap the financial rewards of process improvement and product development. Today as a Partner and leader of RKL’s R&D Credit Practice, Ben and his team of specialists take a “listen and learn” approach to claiming these often misunderstood and under-utilized tax credits. Ben eschews the standardized application model for R&D credits, instead creating customized analyses tailored to the intricacies of each company’s particular research process in order to deliver increased benefit to clients.
To support his client-specific approach, Ben stays abreast of current and emerging tax law developments, including changes to tax credit mechanics, recent and pending court decisions, federal regulations and service guidance. He is a recognized technical expert and respected leader in the field of R&D tax credits and business transactional law.
“The ingenuity of everyday business leaders and the different ways they create and achieve their visions are an ongoing source of inspiration for me.”
