Moravian Manor Communities is a not-for-profit senior living community located in Lititz, Pennsylvania, offering a person-centered approach to a full continuum of services.
The Challenge:
For more than a decade, Moravian Manor Communities has relied on RKL as a trusted advisor. From feasibility studies and preparation of Medicare/Medicaid cost reports to various operational analyses, RKL helped the senior living community maintain the solid financial footing that provided new opportunities for growth and expansion.
In light of its expanding service lineup and growing team, Moravian Manor sought to develop a strategic plan that would serve as a roadmap for its future and a unifying statement of values for its team and the community at large. Moravian Manor needed a dynamic partner who could maximize the process and bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm as well as extensive healthcare experience to the table.
Enter RKL relationship partner Jeff Boland. Upon learning that Moravian Manor was embarking on a new strategic planning process, Jeff introduced the firm’s emerging suite of operations consulting solutions, including strategic planning. Moravian Manor leadership was pleased to discover this aspect of RKL’s consulting capabilities and invited the firm to throw its hat in the ring. The combination of senior living industry knowledge, team-based approach and operations expertise led Moravian Manor to select RKL as its facilitator.

RKL also helped Moravian Manor execute a proactive change management strategy to support the process, which included the involvement of various planning teams beyond leadership to take ownership of different areas. Including members of the Moravian Manor staff in the plan development not only held them accountable, but also made them ambassadors for the plan in the workplace and a trusted source of knowledge among colleagues.
Throughout the sessions, RKL used data to challenge assumptions, vet new ideas and test traditional methods in areas ranging from staffing to operations to service offerings. The RKL team moved beyond standard facilitation to synthesize diverse viewpoints and organize Moravian Manor leadership around a path forward.
The Results:
Moravian Manor emerged from the RKL-facilitated planning process with a measurable and achievable roadmap to not only keep pace with, but also help shape a fast-changing senior living industry, and remain an engaged and respected presence in the local communities it serves. Thanks to the trust and confidence built during the process, Moravian Manor Communities tapped RKL to help execute a number of the action items and strategies in the plan, marking another phase in this longstanding relationship.
